There are simply those days when you’re so exhausted all you want is to chomp down on something that would surely perk you up.  I do recognize the fact that food fuels the body as well as the emotions. That bite you sneak in may simply be the key to unlocking all that creative juice and finally finish a pending project or story. For some, it might just be that lazy, seemingly low-energy day that needs a little oomph. We all do get that kind of day once in a while, right?

To people close to me, a burger, prepared to their liking, with a generous helping of their favorite things, is a sure fix.  So I share with you today, the endless possibilities of our BUCK-UP BURGER.

BUCK UP BURGER PATTY (makes 4 patties):

  • 500 grams freshly ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • salt and pepper to taste

BUCK UP BURGER SAUCE (Need more? Just double up):

  • 1 tbsp mayo (You can also use the homemade kind.)
  • 2 tsp ketchup
  • pinch of grated garlic
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp pickle relish
  • 1 tsp bbq sauce
  • 1 tsp agave (or any sweetener)

Suggested add ons (Do put in your favorites!)

  • lettuce
  • sliced tomatoes
  • cheese
  • fried egg (some like boiled)
  • pineapple
  • carmelized onions
  • bacon
  • mushroom

Each of my children prefers his burger prepared a certain way. Often, I simply prepare as many “add-ons” as possible to make their burger experience memorable each time. Letting kids old enough to do so prepare their own burgers also takes their minds off things, relaxing them. It allows them to be adventurous, trying new things or new combos to add spice to their burger break. This in turn introduces them to new tastes and flavors, giving their palate new sophistication. The excitement alone of waiting for their burgers get assembled is a way to relax and truly bring culinary hope of what this creation may bring.
